Google buys Deja.com

Google has acquired Deja.com‘s USENET search service. The new site is in beta, but is available at groups.google.com. Here’s the press release, which sounds just like every other press release ever written. Deja.com (formerly DejaNews) has been one of my favorite sites since it started years ago, and I watched them go downhill (trying to focus on shopping and their own forums rather than newsgroups) then back up (refocusing on newsgroups) then back down (along with all of the other dot-coms.) I’m glad to see Google, my favorite search engine, rescuing the site. The current site needs work, but according to ResearchBuzz, the advanced features and the entire archive dating back to 1995 will be online within 90 days.
