Open-source FTP client
I stumbled across FileZilla the other day. It’s an open-source FTP client for Windows. While I use tons of open-source software on Linux, I’ve rarely been impressed by open-source Windows software. This is an exception – it’s fast, reliable, and user-friendly.
I’m finally dumping the buggy FTP client that cost me $30 – FileZilla has a few features it lacks, such as a keep-alive feature that works and a nice download queue, and I haven’t found a bug yet.
Test comment.
FIleZilla rocks, and is always improving…
Used it for years now. Nothing compares so far… and its FREE!!!!!!

Thanks a lot for your contribution
I want a book which writes about source for client and server for ftp programming. Thank you.
can i automate it from another program (i.e. scripting ftp)?
Can I take some code that is writen for client and server with ftp? Thanks much.
The source is available to FileZilla. You can open it up and modify for your needs as you wish.
It is usually a good idea to post back any changes if they are worth it to the community.
SmartFTP (although not open source) is also an excellent interface. IMHO, a better interface but may be (slightly) slower. It’s free for personal use and students.
I dumped the slow, kludgy, quirky Coreftp after a year in favor of FileZilla. It just ‘works’.
There is also WinSCP that is open source and supports SCP and SFTP.
I disagree, i have used Filezilla for a long time without to much problem however there is a major issue with Windows FTP on server 2003. I’ve tried every stable release for a year now of Filezilla and it has a constant problem with disconnecting me and crashing. It ONLY happens on the two Window Server 2003 machines not Linux… Go figure lol
